From Thursday, February 8 through Saturday, February 10, Georgia State University and the College of the Arts’ School of Film, Media & Theatre, liquid blackness and the Center for Collaborative and International Arts (CENCIA), with the support of the Creative Media Industries Institute (CMII), the Atlanta Media Project, and the Center for Hellenic Studies, present Rendering (the) Visible III: Liquidity, an interdisciplinary conference on visuality and moving image media. This year’s conference will focus on the concept of “liquidity” as an innovative critical approach to the image’s relation to space, sensation, and the digital as well as the political ontology of movement. 3-D Screening of selected works by Marc Downie and Paul Kaiser (OpenEndedGroup) followed by Q&A with the artists

- The conference opens with a screening of 3D video work by OpenEndedGroup, a digital art collective whose work combines non-photorealistic 3D rendering; digitally captured dance and other bodily movements; and artificial intelligence-assisted direction. Dr. Jennifer Barker will lead a discussion with OpenEndedGroup artists Marc Downie and Paul Kaiser following the screening.
liquid blackness reception and conversation with Professor Thomas F. DeFrantz

- The research group liquid blackness will host a reception and conversation with Professor Thomas F. DeFrantz about its research project “Figuring Suspension: A Study of Visual Recording Artist Storyboard P,” a study of movement, affect, synchronization, black performance theory and animation. Storyboard’s previous work includes collaborations with Arthur Jafa, Kahlil Joseph, Jay-Z, and Erykah Badu.

- Closing the conference on Saturday, February 10, at 5:45 p.m., Professor Grant Farred, author of In Motion, At Rest: The Event of the Athletic Body will deliver the keynote address, “Daseinstufe: Liquidity As a (Distinct) Stage of Being,” ranging from Martin Luther King Jr.’s “Letter from a Birmingham Jail” to Colin Kaepernick’s still body.
