A Five from Five Visual Arts Series
How do major international artists get their start? What catapults them to international stardom? These are questions that are asked and considered in this exhibition. Narratology presents not only the artist’s trajectory onto the international artistic stage but also the political events, international exhibitions, and curators who contributed to the story.
Georgia State University spotlights five focus countries: Brazil, China, South Africa, South Korea, and Turkey. Narratology focuses on the careers of an artist from each focus country: William Kentridge (born 1955, South Africa), Do Ho Suh (born 1962, South Korea), Eli Sudbrack of the assume vivid astro focus art collective (born 1968, Brazil) and his sometime collaborator Christophe Hamaide-Pierson (born 1973, France), Cao Fei (born 1978, China), and Orhan Pamuk (born 1952, Turkey).
Narratology is curated by Selvage Collective and produced in collaboration with the Georgia State University Welch School Galleries and Art21, Inc.
