Socially Engaged
Curated by Brenda Massie, this exhibit includes artists who create performances for photographs and videos that explore identities of gender, race, class, power, history and place from the 1970s to today. Participating artists are Marilyn Minter, LaToya Ruby Frazier, Adrian Piper, Deborah Bright, Pixy Liao, Kerry Skarbakka, Cheryl Pope, Christina Price Washington and Tyler Gill.
Marilyn Minter is an American artist currently living and working in New York City. Minter’s work uses hypersexualization to critique contemporary culture. Her work explores what she calls the “pathology of glamour”. Minter has been the subject of numerous group and solo exhibitions spanning the globe since 2005. In 2006, she was included in the Whitney Biennial. In 2010 her video Green Pink Caviar was exhibited in the lobby of MoMA and she collaborated with Creative Time to install billboards in New York City.
